Snow, snow, snow

It started snowing heavily the week before last (?). I don’t know, about 30 to 40 centimeters came down. We also had -14 degrees, which is pretty extreme for Vancouver, where the temperatures are normally moderate and there is more rain than snow. Consequently, there was a lot of chaos, a „Snow Day“ was declared, which meant that schools were closed and many authorities and organizations also shut down. Rightly so, of course.

I was quickly annoyed by the masses of snow, even if it looks pretty at first. Particularly because the snow was only cleared half-heartedly. But okay, this time even the footpath in front of our house was cleared a little, which was an improvement compared to the last snowfall, which wasn’t that long ago.

However, this did not apply to the turning circle close to the house (this is where the car is parked in the first picture), which is used by all the residents. On Wednesday evening, I saw the young Asian woman who lives in the corner house trying to clear the snow there all by herself. I decided to help her because it’s really shitty to let her do it all by herself. You don’t have to use the turning circle, but many people park there often briefly to take their shopping bags to the houses. Also, this Asian family sometimes is visited by someone in a wheelchair, so it might be important that the path is walkable/drivable.

One of the neighbors (the one with the two cats) came home while we were clearing the snow together. He drove his jeep crunching over the piles of snow to park at the side of the road in front of the turning circle. Went into the house and only came out once twenty minutes later to throw sledges into his car. The car was probably still warming up, you could hear it humming, even though he had gone back into the house. Mind you, nobody came to help us clear the turning circle, although there are a lot of people living around here and we two women did it all by ourselves. I was soaking wet afterwards, but I thought it was also a good workout. But I’m not saying it should snow more – I’m really ready for spring!
